The Grand View Point Overlook parking lot is easy to reach by car, and there were plenty of other hikers at this very popular overlook. It's a very easy but scenic trail - Clark and I actually hiked it all in flip flops. If you only have time for one short hike at Island in the Sky, I would recommend this one!
As we left the car, we hiked quickly to try to reach the end of the mesa by sunset. The entire time the view looking out across the canyon were spectacular. The cairns were easy to follow on the smooth rock.
When the trai ended, we decided to continue further and climb up some rocks. Be careful, since this pile of rocks does sit on the edge of a cliff!
From atop the mesa, we could easily see the white rim trail and other 4WD trails. The white rim trail is definitely on our to do list, and it would be a refreshing change to bikepack instead of backpack!
