Lone Rock Beach Camping - Glen Canyon NRA, AZ

Dates: 4/18/2015-4/19/2015

Location: Google Maps

Cost: $10

This was our favorite campsite of our Southwest roadtrip, and we loved it so much we have already made plans to return to Lake Powell in the fall. The water was too cold to get in this time of year, but I definitely want to return later in the year to go boating on the massive lake. We were lucky enough to enjoy the shoreline and water with hardly anyone else, have a bonfire in the middle of the night, and watch the stars from the top of our car. If you need a place to camp in the off season (September-April), this was our favorite in the area.

After visiting Page, Arizona, we needed a place to crash before heading to Zion the next morning, and we found this primitive campground on the way. There were also decent toilets throughout the stretch of sand, and we didn't have a problem with our 2WD. We've never camped on the shore of a lake, and we had never imagined we would be laying out on a soft sandy the beach for a short nap this trip.

We met some locals who advised us not to head to the right, because people always get stuck in the soft sand there. They also told us about all of the canyons to explore by boat, kayak, or SUP, and we were tempted to spend a day exploring the lake. Apparently this area gets ridiculously packed starting Memorial Day, so we were fortunate not to have to deal with the crowds.

Our awesome, secluded camp spot

Napping in the sun after a long day on the road

The stars were beautiful at night, and we were able to keep warm from the wind by our fire.

The sunrise over the lake was so beautiful, the next morning, and it was nice to eat our breakfast and watch the soft colors transition into sunlight.

Morning glow at dawn

I could get used to waking up with this view..
